Right, let’s say it. Christmas, it’s a thing that is coming up soon and I know we all feel its still March, and time, what is that anymore, but I am going to talk to you about advent calendars.
I have always watched other dyers do advent calendars every year and always wanted to join in. But never did as, well honestly I was too scared to put myself out there. I’m taking the plunge this year and doing an advent calendar Rusty Ferret style!
I decided to choose a theme because if Christmas isn’t a time for a theme, then I don’t know when. May I present our Christmas Myths Advent Calendar.
I’ve taken 12 of my favourite Christmas myths and used them to inspire 12 exclusive colourways. If that sounds too sweet for you just remember my love of all things gruesome and gory, so there will be plenty of monsters.
The yarn is our 100% British BFL base. It’s superwash treated so it’s ideal for socks, shawls and garments, and that gives you all the choices about what to make with your advent yarn.
There will be 12 20 gram skeins – so 240 grams and 960 meters of yarn in total. I went with 12 skeins so you can choose to open a parcel every other day or open a parcel a day over the first 12 days of December then choose your colour order and get knitting. As well as yarn there’s a special set of 12 stitch markers. These exclusive designs are being created especially for the advent calendar and they’ll carry on the theme of the myth. There will even be a couple of other little treats.
Each skein will be individually wrapped, and the parcel will be sent in a cardboard box.
I know that the post is less certain than normal right now, so all advent calendars will be sent by tracked and signed for post. The yarn for the advent colours is ready to dye now, so calendars can be posted at the start of November.
